As the lucky winner of the Oxford Properties bursary back in April 2024, I didn’t know what to expect of a UICH Pan-American Congress. Beyond couple of stories, good memories and guidelines from some members I had no idea that those 4 days would mark a turning point in my career.

The Congress began on August 19th at the Hilton Puerto Vallarta. The venue was breathtaking, overlooking the ocean, where the service was both attentive and discreet. All conditions were reunited to enjoy a successful congress, mixing networking, education and sightseeing.

Our host kicked off the festivities with an elegant White Party in the conference centre. First time attendees had the opportunity to meet and connect with International President Randy Santos, 3rd International Vice President Rober Marks, Americas Zone Director Renata Cury Farha and Mexican President Lilia Aguilera. In this thrilling, elevated Mexican setting, it was time for old friends to reunite and for new friendships to blossom. As I shook hands, shared stories, and met so many fellow concierges, a strong sense of belonging emerged. The joy and excitement quickly replaced any overwhelming feelings, making the evening truly enjoyable.

Meetings started the following day with updates from all Directors, the Les Clefs d’Or Foundation as well as the CSR. Canada took the opportunity to tease members about the next Pan American congress scheduled to take place in Vancouver to celebrate Canada’s 50th Anniversary in the association. Sponsors and Partners took over the stage to showcase their services and facilitate connexions with hotel concierges.

The guest speaker for this session was Massimo Ianni, founder of Massimo & Partners, a management company specialized in Start-ups and pre-openings. Massimo delivered a truly inspiring presentation titled “What Keys Are You Holding?” His comparison of past, present, and future trends, enriched with detailed examples, sparked curiosity, questions, and ideas among the crowd.

The afternoon session was dedicated to Canada’s meeting with a presentation from the board to update members in 2023 and 2024’s activities and actions and prepare 2025 (National congress in Toronto) and 2026. Then each regional directors presented their yearly report.

For the second night, the Mexican committee arranged a dine around in the city, allowing us to explore Puerto Vallarta’s culinary scene. Members were divided into groups, and I headed downtown with concierges from USA, Mexico, Panama as well as partners and sponsors. We were welcomed by the most generous team of Casa Mar for a sensational dinner on the rooftop patio. Cocktail at sunset, table side preparation, live musician and fireworks were some of the highlights of the night. The dinner was a colorful display of traditional Mexican fare, and taste buds were buzzing!

The next day was dedicated to the second part of the AGM. Ronaldo Breton, National Treasurer, shared and explained the 2023 and 2024 internal budgets.

Les Clefs d’Or Canada Comite de Sages Toni Daoud and Gerald Parent reminded the association of the importance of attendance and participation at meetings and social events, responding to invitations and presenting ourselves in a professional manner. With the numbers of Les Clefs d’Or members and hotel’s supports declining, it is key to demonstrate strong and unified engagement. The association thrives because of its participants, and every contribution, no matter how small, is significant. A quote that resonated from this meeting was “To be the worst player in the best team, never the opposite”. Les Clefs d’Or is already the best international stage for hospitality, the smallest contribution can be a big step personally and for the association. Don’t hesitate to share your skills, reach to your board and get involved as much as you can. Concierges tent to be discreet, don’t want to make waves as it is required from us at the desk but when it comes to Les Clefs d’Or, this is the time to be extra, vocal and initiator for the greater good.

After the seriousness of these meetings, it was time to lighten the mood. We embarked for a Fiesta Mexicana up in the jungle organized by local partners Canopy River Park. The site welcomes guests for entertainment, sightseeing, outdoor activities and soon, accommodations. All sections enjoyed a spectacular evening filled with a rodeo, cavalry show, mariachis, dancers, and an extensive buffet.

Thursday, the last day of this incredible stay, arrived too quickly. As we gathered in the conference centre for our final dinner, emotions were mixed between happiness and excitement for this last and joyful night, and nostalgy of the first goodbyes and the long wait until the next visit. The décor was delightful, with vibrant color and energic live music. We all witnessed a symbolic moment as three aspiring members of the Latin America section received their keys that night. Directors and mentors joined the stage to pin the golden keys on their lapels. Tears and smiles appeared on the crowd’s faces as we all remember this significant feeling of gratitude and honour after a long journey, and the beginning of new adventures with Les Clefs d’Or family. This congress couldn’t have ended on a better note!

Now back home, I reflect on this unforgettable experience and try to organize my thoughts and feelings. First, I wish to thank the Mexican section and Congress committee to have been the most welcoming and generous hosts. The tremendous work they put into the preparation and execution of this congress is nothing short but impressive and the success of this event is entirely due to their efforts. With the help of all Americas Directors and Boards they made a lasting impression of this traditional reunion.

I also want to extend my warmest gratitude to the Canadian members who welcomed me with open arms. I met most of you for the very first time in Puerto Vallarta, far from home, and you made me feel like family. This feeling and appreciation will last for a lifetime.

And by extension I am so grateful for everyone I met, took the time to introduce themselves, talked with me, exchange tips and memories about Les Clefs d’Or and reaffirm my decision to start this career 10 years ago.

Finally, I want to encourage every young Clefs d’Or to make the trip and participate to a Congress —whether national, Pan American, or international. Each one is a life-changing experience, both professionally and personally.  The contacts, social skills and representation you will gain is the tip of the iceberg. You will meet colleagues and friends who will become your family, people you can rely on and trust at any time, anywhere.

Vive les Clefs d’Or!
