James Burnham, founding member of Les Clefs d’Or Canada
In 1985, following Herb Goldring’s retirement after a 9 year stint as Les Clefs d’Or Canada President, Mr. James Burnham was elected President. He became the 2nd President in LCDC’s history.
Mr. Burnham was one of the original six concierges who founded Les Clefs d’Or Canada in 1975. He was present in Lisbon, in 1976 when Canada was admitted into the Les Clefs d’Or – UICH International association.
He started his hotel carreer in 1948 as Head Porter at the Laurentian Hotel in Montreal. His first concierge position was in 1965 at the Holiday Inn, downtown Toronto. From there, he moved on to manage the concierge desks at the Toronto Harbour Castle Hilton, Sutton Place Toronto, Ramada Hotel Toronto and finally at the Royal York Hotel.
During his career, James served on the board of the Society of the Golden Keys of Canada for a period of 13 years, as International Delegate, Vice President and President. He represented Canada at eight International Congresses.
We were lucky enough to reconnect with him in 2007 at the Montreal National Congress, where he was awarded an Honorary Member Certificate for his important contribution into the birth and the development of Les Clefs d’Or Canada.
